Food Safety and Standard Authority of India is an Indian-based authorization that is under the control of the goFSSAIvernment of India. FSSAI is responsible for protecting and promoting public health through the rule and command of food safety.

The FSSAI is headed by a non-executive Chairperson, appointed by the Central Government, either holding or has held the position of not below the rank of Secretary to the Government of India.

FAQ FOR FSSAI

Responsibility of ensuring compliance of FSS Act, 2006 rules and regulations made thereunder by the FBO’s.

Enforcement is undertaken on the basis of surveillance, monitoring, inspection and random sampling of food products carried out by the Officials of Food Safety Departments.

Food Safety and Standards Authority of India and State Food Authorities are jointly responsible for implementation & enforcement of FSSA, 2006. The details are provided Section 29 of FSS Act, 2006.

The enforcement is primarily undertaken by all Food Safety Commissioners of State/UT along with Designated Officers and Food Safety Officers.

The FSO shall be liable to a penalty which may extend up to one lakh rupee if he / she is found to be guilty of an offence mentioned under section 39 of the Act. Provided that in case the complaint made against the Food Safety Officer is false, the complainant shall be punishable with fine which shall not be less than fifty thousand rupees and may extend to one lakh rupees.

The improvement notice is the notice issued by Designated Officer if FBO fails to comply with the regulations as mentioned in Section 32 of the FSS Act, 2006

FSSAI Stands for “Food Safety and Standard Authority of India. FSSAI is an Independent organization under the Ministry of Health. FSSAI Registration is mandatory for every individuals or entity that is eligible for an FSSAI food safety Registration or License.

Maintaining the food quality levels in order to ensure safety and providing satisfaction to every consumer is the aim of every Food Business Operator. Food safety and standards authority of India (FSSAI Registration) plays an important role in formulating the controlling procedures.

There are 4 steps including fssai license registration procedure that are following:-

  5. Issue of Certificate
  1. Basic registration: It Includes Business Having Turnover up to 12 Lakh in a Year
  2. State license: Business having turnover between 12 lakh to 20 cr in a year comes under state license
  3. Central license: Business having turnover above 20 cr comes under central license, any business doing export and import also come under central license
  1. Registrations are granted to small or petty FBOs whose annual turn- over does not exceed Rs. 12 lakhs.
  2. Registrations are granted by the Registering Authority who may be Designated Officer/ Food Safety Officer or any official in Panchayat, Municipal Corporation or any other local body or Panchayat in an area, notified by the State Food Safety Commissioner.
  3. Documents required while applying for a Registration:-
    • Application in Schedule-1
    • Fees @Rs. 100/- per annum
    • Address proof (Government documents like Voter ID card)
    • Photograph of applicant
  4. Registration Card should be exhibited at a prominent place of business premise.
